American Influences on China during Chinese Civil War
During the Chinese Civil War, the United States provided financial aid to the National Revolutionary Army, but slowly cut down by the end of the war. The GMD asked for 1.5 billion dollars, but the US sent well under 400 million dollars. The US believed that the NRA should modernize their military via structure and ammunition, by using better weapons and building military ranks. The US stayed with China till 1947 to prevent Stalin from taking over Communist China. The US was bitter that China fell under Communist power after providing them with their diplomacy and resources. The Soviets and Americans urged Mao to include Chiang-Kai Shek in their plans, but he refused to. According to the Chinese perspective, the US caused many problems by meddling in the war.
Soviet Union Influences on China during Chinese Civil War
The Soviet Union provided financial aid to the People's Liberation Army throughout the whole Chinese Civil War. The Soviets believed that the PLA should modernize their military as well, but the PLA was more interested in using their large military to achieve tasks. The Soviets did not want China to become a bigger Communist country than them. Stalin rather supported both the GMD and the CCP, to avoid a threat to themselves. Stalin ordered local Soviet leaders in Manchuria to give the Japanese's weapons to the CCP. He proposed many different options to Mao, such as the national revolutionary-democratic government rather than a Communist one. Stalin's neutrality caused the GMD and the CCP to avoid relations with the Soviets during the war.
